Trump’s Global Tariffs Take Effect at 10%
President Donald Trump’s revised global tariffs took effect on Tuesday at 10% after he initially said they would start at 15%. The shift followed a Supreme Court ruling striking down his earlier tariff plan under the IEEPA.
The administration is now using Section 122, which permits up to 15% tariffs for 150 days. After the SCOTUS ruling, FedEx sued the US government seeking refunds for tariffs the court deemed illegal. European Union officials called the shifting policy “customs chaos” and froze implementation of last summer’s trade deal pending clarity on the new tariff plans.

Thousands of Flights Canceled as Northeast Marred by Storms
A powerful nor’easter brought record snowfall to the US Northeast on Monday, with Rhode Island and Massachusetts seeing up to 37 inches and New York City recording more than 19 inches, according to the National Weather Service. More than 600,000 customers lost power, and states including Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts imposed travel bans. Here’s the unexpected things you need during a blizzard.
Airports across New York, Boston, Newark and Philadelphia saw over 5,600 flight cancellations, with some hubs suspending nearly all operations. The Boston Globe halted print delivery for the first time in its history as heavy snow blocked access to its press.

Work

Why Are Women Quitting The Workforce
Roughly 455,000 women left the US workforce between January and August 2025, according to federal data, with caregiving pressures emerging as the leading cause. New research from Catalyst shows 42% of women cited child-care responsibilities as their primary reason for leaving, followed by 17% pointing to low pay.
The findings suggest women are being pushed out as companies scale back flexible work, increase in-office requirements, and deprioritize DEI efforts. Additional studies from the University of Kansas and KPMG show similar trends, warning that reduced support systems are limiting women’s ability to stay and advance in their careers.
