US Sinks Iranian Warship In Indian Ocean For First Time Since WWII
In a dramatic escalation of the conflict with Iran, the United States has intensified military operations while facing growing global and domestic scrutiny. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said a US Navy submarine sank an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean with a single Mark 48 torpedo, the first such submarine strike since World War II. The vessel, identified as IRIS Dena and nicknamed “Soleimani,” went down off Sri Lanka with about 180 people aboard. According to the Sri Lankan authorities 87 bodies were recovered and 32 survivors rescued. Watch the video.
Meanwhile, NATO intercepted an Iranian ballistic missile headed toward Türkiye. The strikes come after Donald Trump ordered sweeping US attacks on Iran that killed Ali Khamenei, prompting retaliation, over 1,000 reported civilian deaths, and postponed funeral plans in Tehran. Iran denied reports it had sought talks with the Central Intelligence Agency, calling them psychological warfare.
Back home, polls from CNN, Reuters, and The Washington Post show about 60% of Americans disapprove of the military action, even as Congress debates whether the president needed authorization to launch the strikes.

To Live Long, Be Strong
A study of 5,472 women aged 63 to 99 found muscular strength strongly linked to longer life. Researchers analyzed grip strength, lower-body strength, activity levels and health data over about eight years. Women with stronger muscles had a significantly lower risk of early death, even after accounting for age, health conditions, exercise habits and aerobic fitness.
The findings, of a study published in JAMA Network Open, suggest strength itself may independently influence longevity, not just physical activity. Researchers used simple tests such as grip strength and a sit-to-stand chair test to measure strength, highlighting practical ways people can assess and improve muscular strength as they age.
