In 2026, We Are “Friction Maxxing”

A growing argument says modern technology has made constant escapism the default by removing everyday human “friction”. Digital tools reduce effort around reading, thinking, social interaction, movement, and decision-making. The idea suggests tech companies profit by eliminating inconvenience, especially for children, shaping habits toward avoidance.

In response, some parents are intentionally reintroducing friction by limiting devices, encouraging independence, tolerating boredom, and prioritizing real-world challenges. The approach frames inconvenience as necessary for attention, autonomy, learning, and preserving core human behaviors in an increasingly automated, low-effort digital environment.

New Year, New Health Bills

Drugmakers plan to raise US list prices on at least 350 branded medicines in 2026, including COVID, RSV, shingles vaccines and cancer drug Ibrance, according to data from 3 Axis Advisors. The median increase is about 4%, up from roughly 250 drugs last year.

The hikes exclude rebates and discounts. Some prices will fall, including a more than 40% cut for diabetes drug Jardiance after Medicare negotiations. President Donald Trump has urged companies to lower US prices, while firms including Pfizer, GSK and Sanofi cited inflation and investment costs
