Trump Visit UK
President Donald Trump is on a state visit to the United Kingdom, where he was honored Wednesday with a lavish banquet at Windsor Castle hosted by King Charles III. In photos. The trip, his first since returning to office, comes amid plans for high-level talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. What was on the menu in state banquet at Windsor Castle?
In his toast, Trump praised the US-UK relationship as enduring, declaring, “We are two notes in one chord, forever joined in harmony”. What did Trump say in his speech addressing Kate Middleton? He added that America and Britain would continue to defend “the values of the English-speaking world”. King Charles, in turn, stressed cooperation on Ukraine and climate change, calling the alliance “a beacon in troubled times”. The evening featured organic Norfolk chicken, pageantry including a carriage procession and Red Arrows flyover, and smaller demonstrations outside the castle gates. Major American CEOs were invited to Trump’s UK dinner.
Attention now turns to Thursday’s meeting at Starmer’s country retreat, Chequers, where talks will center on trade, Russia’s war in Ukraine, and Middle East conflicts. The visit has already spurred major announcements: Microsoft, OpenAI, Nvidia, and others pledged billions in UK investments as part of a new “Tech Prosperity Deal,” which British officials said could create 7,600 jobs. Fed Cuts Interest Rate First Time This Year
The Federal Reserve cut interest rates by a quarter percentage point on Wednesday, its first reduction of 2025, citing mounting pressure in the labor market despite persistent inflation. The move lowers the federal funds rate to a range of 4% to 4.25%.
Fed Chair Jerome Powell described the cut as a “risk management” step, noting that “downside risks to employment have risen.” He added, “There are no risk-free paths now… it’s not incredibly obvious what to do.” Job gains have slowed to an average of just 29,000 per month over the past three months, compared with more than 130,000 earlier this year.
The decision came amid political tension. President Donald Trump has pushed aggressively for sharper cuts and sought to reshape the Fed board, installing Stephen Miran, who dissented in favor of a half-point reduction. Trump also attempted to remove Governor Lisa Cook, who still voted after winning court rulings to block her dismissal. New Fed projections signaled the possibility of two additional cuts this year, with most officials forecasting rates between 3.5% and 3.75% by December. While inflation remains above the Fed’s 2% target, Powell stressed the priority is now stabilizing a labor market increasingly vulnerable to shocks. What the decision means for your finances.

ABC Takes ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Off Air
ABC has suspended ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ indefinitely after the host’s comments about the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk drew backlash from the Federal Communications Commission. The decision came after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr warned Disney and ABC to “take action” or face consequences. Who is Brendan Carr?
During his Sept. 15 monologue, Kimmel criticized Republicans for their response to Kirk’s killing, remarking, “We hit some new lows… doing everything they can to score political points from it.” What did he say? Utah prosecutors have charged 22-year-old Tyler Robinson with aggravated murder, though his motive remains unclear. Was there a business factor to take down the show?
Following Carr’s remarks, Nexstar and Sinclair pulled Kimmel’s show from their ABC affiliates, calling his comments “offensive and insensitive.” How have the fans reacted? ABC soon followed, confirming the suspension. Sinclair also announced it will replace Kimmel’s timeslot with a special honoring Kirk. President Donald Trump praised the move, while Hollywood stars and unions condemned it as censorship. How has Hollywood reacted to the news?

A Louisiana immigration judge has ordered pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil deported to Syria or Algeria, citing omissions in his green card application. Khalil, a legal US resident and former Columbia graduate student, argues the move is retaliation for his activism. His lawyers say they’ll appeal, but warn the process will be “swift” and “unfavorable.” A federal judge in New Jersey has temporarily blocked his deportation while reviewing Khalil’s claim that the Trump administration is unlawfully targeting him.
