Who Owns TikTok Now?

TikTok said on Thursday that its Chinese parent, ByteDance, finalized a deal to spin off US operations into a new company owned mostly by non-Chinese investors. Five things to know. Oracle, MGX and Silver Lake will each hold 15 percent, alongside other firms, while ByteDance will retain just under 20 percent. Who owns what stake in the deal?

Adam Presser will serve as chief executive. Will you have to download a new TikTok app? The move follows a 2024 US law requiring divestment over national security concerns. TikTok CEO Shou Chew said the deal allows continued service for more than 200 million US users. What will change and what will stay the same?

Trump Really Wants Skyscrappers in Gaza

The United States unveiled plans for a “New Gaza” during a signing ceremony for President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Are most countries on the board are banned from immigrant visas? Slides showed a phased reconstruction featuring skyscrapers, housing estates, industrial zones, and coastal tourism areas for Gaza’s 2.1 million residents.

President Trump said the plan focused on location and redevelopment potential. Jared Kushner said reconstruction would follow Hamas’s demilitarisation under an October ceasefire agreement and cited extensive war damage. The plan includes a new port, airport, and security perimeter, with rebuilding beginning in Rafah. Why this plan contrasts with reality.

Why Your Phone is on a Snow Warning Spree

Weather apps warned this week that a large storm system could bring a foot or more of snow to New York City, as forecasts grew more intense nationwide. Meteorologists said differences stem from how forecasts are made.

The National Weather Service blends multiple computer models, ensembles of simulations, and expert judgment, while many apps display results from a single model without context. Forecasting snowfall is further complicated by uncertainty over how precipitation changes before reaching the ground. As models converged midweek, forecasters grew more confident, with the National Weather Service projecting six to 12 inches around New York and higher totals possible in some areas. Here’s what the storm’s going to look like in numbers.

WEIGH IN

Whether it’s a stifling summer night or a freezing winter evening, bedroom temperature can make or break your sleep. Sleep experts say cooler rooms help the body’s natural temperature drop, boost melatonin, and support deeper rest. Most recommendations land between 60 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit, with 65 often cited as ideal. Too much heat can disrupt REM and deep sleep, while extreme cold can cause discomfort and frequent wake-ups. Still, personal comfort, bedding choices, and seasonal habits all play a role.
