Hormone Therapies For Menopause To Lose Black Box Warnings: FDA
The FDA will remove its longstanding black box warning on menopause hormone therapies, marking a major reversal in women’s health policy. The warning — once tied to risks of breast cancer, stroke, and heart attack — was based on early 2000s research that experts now call outdated. FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary said newer data show modern hormone treatments are both safe and beneficial when started early in menopause, improving bone, heart, and cognitive health.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. called the move a correction to decades of misplaced fear, saying women had been “steered away from life-changing therapy”. Is hormone therapy right for you? Updated labels will include age-specific guidance, recommending use within 10 years of menopause onset, while still noting potential risks for older women or those with prior breast cancer.
Doctors welcomed the change, especially for low-dose vaginal estrogen, which relieves dryness and urinary symptoms with minimal systemic risk. Others urged continued caution for systemic hormone use. Supporters say the decision restores confidence and autonomy to millions navigating menopause; critics warn it may downplay rare but real side effects. Either way, the change marks a significant rethinking of how women’s health is approached in midlife.

Trump Holds Historic White House Meeting With Syrian Leader
President Donald Trump on Monday hosted Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa at the White House in a historic first meeting between US and Syrian leaders. Al-Sharaa, a former al-Qaeda commander recently removed from the US terrorism blacklist, arrived in Washington to finalize Syria’s entry into the US-led coalition to defeat ISIS and to reopen the Syrian Embassy after more than a decade. The visit marks a stunning turn for US-Syria relations — and a dramatic rebranding for a onetime jihadist now welcomed in the Oval Office.
Trump called al-Sharaa a “very strong leader” and added, “I get along with the president, the new president in Syria, and we’ll do everything we can to make Syria successful.” On Truth Social, he wrote, “Having a stable and successful Syria is very important to all countries in the region.” A senior administration official confirmed Syria will become the coalition’s 90th member, calling the meeting “historic”. The US Treasury also announced a 180-day suspension of Caesar Act sanctions, paving the way for American investment.
In a Fox News interview, al-Sharaa said, “After the fall of the former regime, Syria has entered into a new era… Syria is no longer a security threat, it is a geopolitical ally.” Syria to join US bid to defeat IS group.

Saying ‘I Do’ Just Got Costlier, Thanks To Tariffs
Weddings are already pricey and stressful, but this year, couples face an unexpected new guest: tariffs. From engagement rings to cakes and flowers, nearly every wedding detail has become tangled in global trade costs. With President Donald Trump’s trade agenda imposing tariff rates as high as 50%, the average US wedding, already up 18% to $33,000, could grow even more expensive.
Vendors are scrambling. Dressmakers like Justin Alexander say wedding gowns now cost up to 10% more due to tariffs on materials from Myanmar, China, and Vietnam. Cake artists are rewriting contracts to protect against fluctuating ingredient costs, while jewelers warn engagement rings could soon spike as imported diamonds and gold face new duties.
Florists and venues are also feeling the squeeze, padding prices or stockpiling imports like champagne and tequila before rates rise again. Some small businesses fear losing clients as they adjust prices to survive. Ultimately, the global ripple of tariffs is hitting home, right at the altar. Whether it’s a gown, gemstone, or glass of bubbly, every imported touch of “I do” now comes with an unpredictable price tag.
