Trump Heads To Davos As Greenland Dispute And Tariff Threats Rattle Allies

President Donald Trump will travel to Davos on Tuesday amid escalating tensions with US allies over Greenland and trade. Ahead of the World Economic Forum, Trump threatened tariffs on Denmark and seven other NATO countries unless Greenland is transferred to US control by Feb. 1. Will Trump hold meeting on Greenland?

In Davos, Trump plans to expand his proposed Gaza “Board of Peace” to a global remit, according to a senior US official. Allies were unsettled after Trump shared private messages with foreign leaders and circulated a text to NATO ambassadors stating he would no longer focus “purely of Peace”, as first reported by PBS. Where and how to see Trump’s Davos speech.

Supreme Court Weighs Trump’s Bid to Fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook

The Supreme Court on Wednesday hears arguments over President Donald Trump’s attempt to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. Trump says he can fire Cook “for cause,” citing mortgage fraud allegations raised by Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte, which Cook denies and bank records contradict.

Federal law allows removal of Fed governors only for cause. Cook’s lawyers argue she is entitled to notice and a chance to respond. Solicitor General D. John Sauer says the decision rests solely with the president. The case follows scrutiny of Fed Chair Jerome Powell.

Why Do We Want It To Be 2016 Again?

Social media users posted widespread throwbacks this week revisiting life in 2016, filling feeds with old photos, fashion trends, and pop culture references. Celebrities including Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, and Karlie Kloss shared similar posts. Users cited nostalgia for a period before algorithm-driven feeds dominated platforms.

A 25-year-old from Kansas City, told New York Times that people felt less pressure and posted more freely then. An author said the trend reflects nostalgia colliding with major structural shifts in social media, including Instagram’s 2016 move away from chronological feeds.

The United Nations University’s latest report states the world has entered an era of “global water bankruptcy”, a condition where water systems are depleted beyond renewable means and cannot be restored to historical levels. The report, led by water expert Kaveh Madani, says decades of overuse, pollution, land degradation and climate change have stressed rivers, lakes, wetlands and aquifers to the point of irreversible loss. It highlights that critical water supplies have dropped in many regions, major rivers sometimes fail to reach the sea, and groundwater depletion is causing land to sink in cities. The report calls for rethinking water management and adapting to this new reality.
