U.S. Issues Travel Bans for 12 Countries

President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a renewed travel ban targeting citizens from 12 countries, with additional restrictions on travelers from seven others. The ban takes effect Monday at 12:01 a.m., aiming to avoid the airport chaos that followed a similar 2017 order. The new ban, explained.
The full ban applies to Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen — many of which were included in Trump’s earlier restrictions. Heightened restrictions will apply to visitors from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.
Trump previewed the policy upon returning to office and appears on stronger legal footing after the Supreme Court upheld a similar measure in his first term. In a video statement, Trump linked the move to Sunday’s terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, saying it highlighted threats from visa overstays. The suspect, from Egypt — which is not on the list — had overstayed a tourist visa, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Trump Orders Investigation of Joe Biden, His Aides
President Trump on Wednesday ordered the White House counsel and attorney general to investigate former President Joe Biden and his staff, aiming to probe whether any of Biden’s policies were enacted without his knowledge. Trump on Wednesday announced an investigation into whether Biden’s aides tried to “deceive the public” about his “serious cognitive decline. This conspiracy marks one of the most dangerous and concerning scandals in American history,” Trump said in a memo directing White House counsel David Warrington and Attorney General Pam Bondi to lead the probe.
While autopen signatures are standard presidential practice, Trump has recently questioned their use, echoing claims about Biden’s mental state in his final months — claims Biden has denied. Biden distanced himself from the claims on Wednesday, calling them “ridiculous and false” in a statement after issuing the order.
The executive order directs federal resources toward examining the legal validity of Biden-era actions, suggesting aides may have acted independently. It follows Trump’s social media post over the weekend amplifying a conspiracy theory that Biden was “executed in 2020” and replaced by a robotic clone — part of a broader pattern in which Trump and allies depict Biden as mentally unfit.
Putin to Hit Back After Ukraine’s Drone Attack
After a call with Vladimir Putin, President Trump warned that Russia is preparing a response to Ukraine’s major drone attack on its airbases. “President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields,” Trump said.
Trump warned in a social media post that his hour-long call with Putin wouldn’t “lead to immediate peace” between Russia and Ukraine. The leaders also “exchanged views on the prospects for restoring cooperation between the countries, which has enormous potential”. The call followed Ukraine’s surprise June 1 drone strikes on four Russian military airfields, reportedly damaging over 40 aircraft, according to Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU). The aircraft were said to be bombing Ukrainian cities nightly.
The call came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged allies to accelerate weapons support at NATO headquarters in Brussels. Speaking via video, Zelenskyy called for faster air defense deliveries — especially U.S.-made Patriot systems. “These are the most effective way to force Russia to stop its missile strikes and terror,” he said, urging around 50 participating countries to fulfill past pledges. Notably absent was the U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth — the first Pentagon chief to skip the meeting since its founding in 2022.
