Supreme Court Weigh In On Trump’s Tariffs
The Supreme Court on Wednesday signaled skepticism toward President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs, questioning whether he overstepped his authority under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The law allows the president to “regulate” imports during a national emergency, but it does not mention tariffs. Chief Justice John Roberts said tariffs are “the imposition of taxes on Americans, and that has always been the core power of Congress,” while Justice Elena Kagan noted, “It has a lot of actions that can be taken under this statute. It just doesn’t have the one you want.” What to know after Supreme Court’s arguments.
Justice Neil Gorsuch questioned whether Congress could “just abdicate all responsibility to regulate foreign commerce,” while Justice Sonia Sotomayor emphasized, “You want to say tariffs are not taxes, but that’s exactly what they are.” The court also wondered if Trump could refund the tariffs, but could he? The administration argued that the tariffs were “regulatory, not revenue-raising,” though Trump has repeatedly boasted that the US is “making a fortune” from them. Amid tariff discussion, what’s at stake for the economy?
The White House maintains that Trump’s emergency tariffs are vital to protect national interests and rebuild manufacturing. Does the White House not care about tariff money? The Justice Department acknowledged that refunds could be required if the court strikes them down, potentially forcing repayment of nearly $90 billion. A ruling is expected by year’s end, with major implications for presidential power, trade policy, and economic stability.

France Pulls the Plug on Shein Over Sex Doll Uproar
France has launched proceedings to suspend Shein after childlike sex dolls and illegal weapons were found for sale on its website, just as the Chinese fast-fashion giant opened its first-ever physical store in Paris. The scandal triggered outrage among politicians, consumers, and activists, who accused Shein of promoting dangerous and exploitative content. The French government said the suspension will remain until Shein proves full compliance with national laws. Everything you need to know.
Shein quickly sanctioned the sellers, banned sex dolls globally, and temporarily suspended its French marketplace to “review and strengthen” its seller policies. But the controversy overshadowed the fanfare of its Paris store launch, which drew hundreds of protesters outside BHV Marais shouting “Shame on you!” at shoppers queuing to enter.
French officials have urged the European Commission to investigate Shein’s practices, citing broader concerns about labor violations, environmental impact, and predatory marketing. Lawmakers also summoned company executives for a parliamentary hearing later this month. The backlash adds to a growing reckoning for fast fashion in France — a country increasingly determined to hold global retailers accountable for what they sell, how they produce it, and the values they represent.

Mexico President Groped On Street; Seeks Stringent Action
What was meant to be a quick walk from Mexico’s National Palace to the Education Ministry turned into a national reckoning after a video showed a drunk man groping President Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s first female President.
Sheinbaum filed charges, calling the incident a symbol of what Mexican women face daily. “If this can happen to the president, what’s going to happen to all the young women and women across our country?” she asked during her press briefing. “We need to make this visible and say no, a firm no. Women’s personal space must not be violated.”
Sheinbaum said her decision was about accountability, not privilege. “I don’t want this to be a privilege of the president,” she added, urging reforms to ensure harassment is recognized as a crime nationwide. Despite the outrage and concerns about her safety, she refused to increase security. “We can’t be far from the people,” she said.
