To Espresso, Or Not To Espresso
A major long-term study, published in JAMA network tracking more than 131,000 adults for up to 43 years, found that moderate caffeine intake — about two to three cups of coffee or one to two cups of tea a day — was linked to a lower risk of dementia.
Participants who drank caffeinated beverages regularly had 15–20 percent less risk than those who consumed little to none. The correlation held even after adjusting for genetics, lifestyle and health factors. Researchers emphasized that the findings don’t prove causation but align with growing evidence connecting caffeine to healthier aging.

UK’s Keir Starmer Holds Still As Calls For Resignation Grow
Keir Starmer fended off an immediate leadership challenge after Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar publicly urged him to resign over mounting turmoil linked to the appointment of Peter Mandelson as US ambassador. Starmer told MPs he would not “walk away”, as his cabinet rallied behind him despite warnings his leadership remained vulnerable.
The crisis followed the resignation of his chief adviser Morgan McSweeney and communications director Tim Allan, as well as scrutiny of Mandelson’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Potential successors Angela Rayner and Wes Streeting appeared to prepare for future leadership contests amid falling poll numbers.

Texas Issues Long-Awaited Abortion-Care Training
The Texas Medical Board released new training outlining when doctors can legally terminate pregnancies to protect patients’ lives, the first such guidance since the state’s 2021 abortion ban imposed severe criminal penalties. The training was mandated by the Life of the Mother Act, passed after reports of rising sepsis, miscarriage complications and at least four deaths.
The presentation includes nine scenarios, such as preterm rupture of membranes and incomplete abortions. Physicians and legal experts told ProPublica the guidance covers only straightforward cases. Board President Dr. Sherif Zaafran said the course was reviewed by Gov. Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton.

A parenting theory gaining traction suggests raising young kids like dogs — warm, enthusiastic, consistently present — and older kids like cats, offering space while staying emotionally available. The idea, popularized by developmental psychologist Dr. Aliza Pressman, frames shifting parent involvement as children mature. Experts say it mirrors elements of authoritative and autonomy-building styles, though it may fall short for kids needing closer support.
