Minneapolis Mourns After School Shooting Leaves Two Children Dead

Police have identified the suspect in Wednesday’s deadly shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis as 23-year-old Robin Westman. Everything we know. Authorities say Westman opened fire through church windows as children attended Mass, killing two students, ages 8 and 10, and wounding 17 others. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara called the attack a “deliberate act of violence” and described the suspect as a “coward.” Westman, a former student at the school, died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. What have the witnesses said?

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said, “There shouldn’t be words for these kinds of incidents because they should not happen.” A community reeling from violence. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem condemned Westman as a “deranged monster,” adding, “This level of violence is unthinkable.” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said, “Kids died today. This needs to be about them. We should not be operating out of a place of hate.” FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the bureau is investigating the incident as both an anti-Catholic hate crime and an act of domestic terrorism. How a 10-year-old boy saved his friend

All the injured in the shooting are expected to survive, police said. The injured included 14 children and three elderly parishioners in their 80s. Investigators also recovered three legally purchased weapons — a rifle, shotgun, and handgun — all believed to have been fired in the attack. Why did the suspect’s rifle had Trump’s name on it?

Anti-Abortion Movement Has A New Face — Your Ex

The antiabortion movement is testing a new legal strategy: encouraging men to sue over abortions obtained by their partners or ex-partners. Recent lawsuits in Texas claim men are harmed when pregnancies are terminated without their consent, and advocates hope these cases will help challenge mail-order abortion pills and interstate access.

Critics argue the tactic exploits troubled relationships to advance an ideological agenda. “They’re finding people who might have an ax to grind against their ex to try to end abortion access,” said Marc Hearron of the Center for Reproductive Rights, who called the cases based on “a wackadoo theory”. Whereas, supporters say men have legitimate claims. “We’re starting to have fathers who feel that they can speak out and speak up for their rights and for the rights of the child,” said Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life of America.

The lawsuits, many linked to former Texas solicitor general Jonathan F. Mitchell, draw on state law allowing wrongful death claims for unborn children. While most remain untested in court, abortion opponents aim to pierce blue-state “shield laws” protecting providers. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has pursued similar actions, signaling further legal escalation in the ongoing battle over reproductive rights.

How A ‘Sandwich Guy’ Became Resistance Movement In DC

In Washington, protests against the Trump administration’s heavy federal presence have taken an unlikely symbol: a salami sub. Sean Dunn, a former Justice Department paralegal, was caught on video hurling a hoagie at federal officers during an August clash in the U Street corridor, shouting, “F--- you, fascists! I don’t want you in my city!” He was arrested, charged with felony assault, and promptly fired.

But the grand jury’s refusal to indict him transformed Dunn into a viral figure now known as “Sandwich Guy”. His likeness has since appeared in Banksy-inspired street art, on T-shirts, and in memes that recast the thrown sandwich as a symbol of defiance. Protesters have even held subs aloft during demonstrations, mocking what they see as an overblown federal response.

For supporters, the moment captures both the absurdity and intensity of resistance in Trump’s D.C. “It’s surreal and objectively not harmful,” said artist Lorraine Hu, who raised thousands for local charities with Sandwich Guy merchandise. Criminologist Jeffrey Ian Ross called the episode “a perfect storm for virality” — slapstick resistance that exposes the administration’s aggressive crackdown.

WEIGH IN

A new JPMorganChase study shows younger and lower-income Americans are investing at record rates. About a third of 25-year-olds now have investment accounts—a sixfold increase since 2015. Researchers say tech, stimulus checks, and rising asset prices fueled the trend. But with cash balances low and investing often tied to market swings, experts warn this momentum may not last.
