Thousands Protest Immigration Raids Across Minneapolis
Thousands of protesters shut down parts of Minneapolis on Friday, closing hundreds of businesses and keeping workers and students home to oppose a federal immigration crackdown. The demonstrations followed six weeks of federal operations that led to about 3,000 arrests. They escalated after an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Good, a US citizen, on Jan. 7.
Protesters marched downtown, rallied at the Target Center, and demonstrated at the airport in subzero temperatures. Business owners, union leaders, and activists said the actions aimed to pressure the federal government to withdraw agents from the region.
