Justice Department Opens Investigation Into Fed Chair Jerome Powell
The US attorney’s office in DC opened a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome H. Powell over the $2.5 billion renovation of the Fed’s Washington headquarters and whether he misled Congress about its scope. Jeanine Pirro approved the inquiry in November, which includes reviewing Powell’s public statements and spending records.
Powell confirmed grand jury subpoenas were issued, calling the investigation “unprecedented” and defending his actions. President Trump criticized Powell’s Fed leadership and renovation oversight. Senators Thom Tillis, Elizabeth Warren, and Chuck Schumer questioned the probe, citing potential threats to Fed independence.

Breakthrough Could Improve IVF Success Rates for Women Over 35
Scientists report rejuvenating human eggs for the first time, potentially improving IVF success for older women. Microinjections of the protein Shugoshin 1 reduced age-related chromosome defects from 53% to 29% in treated eggs. In women over 35, defects decreased from 65% to 44%.
Prof. Melina Schuh, Max Planck Institute, called this “a very prominent improvement.” Dr. Agata Zielinska, co-CEO of Ovo Labs, said the method could allow more women to conceive in a single IVF cycle. Findings were published as a preprint on Biorxiv and presented at the British Fertility Conference in Edinburgh.

WEIGH IN

Getting back into working out after a break can feel overwhelming, but experts say a smart, gradual approach reduces injury risk and builds sustainable habits. Instead of jumping straight into intense sessions, start with shorter, manageable workouts, prioritize consistent movement, and focus on form over intensity. Incorporating strength training, mobility work, and rest days helps your body adapt and recover. A common theme across trainer advice: ease in with what feels doable now and build from there instead of trying to replicate past peak performance immediately. Many professionals emphasize listening to your body and making fitness fit into your real life.
