Israel Strikes Iran With No U.S. Support

Israel launched airstrikes on Iran early Friday, escalating tensions across the Middle East and likely derailing President Trump’s peace efforts with Tehran. “This operation will continue for as many days as it takes to remove this threat,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling Iran’s nuclear capability a “clear and present danger”. He warned Iran could produce a nuclear weapon within months. Defense Minister Israel Katz called the strikes “preemptive” and declared a “special emergency situation” in Israel, anticipating Iranian retaliation. How many months did it take to plan the strikes?

The Israeli strike, dubbed "Operation Rising Lion", targeted dozens of military sites, including parts of Iran’s nuclear program. The IDF said the operation followed intelligence that Iran had “significantly advanced towards obtaining a nuclear weapon,” a capability it claimed would enable attacks against Israel. Among those killed were Hossein Salami, head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards, several senior military leaders, and nuclear scientists. Iranian state media reported civilian casualties, including children. In response, Iran launched around 100 drones toward Israel. The IDF said it was intercepting them as a state of emergency was declared nationwide. What we know of the attack so far?

When it comes to where the U.S. stands, the Trump administration has informed the Israeli government that the U.S. will not participate directly in any Israeli military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, according to two U.S. officials and one Israeli source familiar with the discussions, Axios reported. Did Israel disregard Trump amid nuclear talks with Iran?

Over 250 Dead as Air India Flight Crashes Minutes After Take Off

An Air India flight bound for London crashed seconds after takeoff in Ahmedabad on Thursday, killing over 260 people in India’s worst air disaster since 1996. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a nearby medical college shortly after departing Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Rescue teams and officials said up to three dozen people on the ground may have been killed in the crash. The devastation.

Video verified by The New York Times shows the plane struggling to gain altitude before erupting into a fireball. Air India confirmed that 241 of the 242 people on board died, with a British citizen being the sole survivor. The plane, Flight AI171, was carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, including 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. What caused the crash?

Prime Minister Modi called the crash “heartbreaking beyond words”. The UK government opened a support hotline and pledged coordination with Indian authorities. President Trump said the U.S. would send investigators and offer full support: “Anything we can do, we will be over there immediately.” What does the crash mean for Boeing?

Court Says Trump Can Keep National Guard Deployed in LA (For Now)

An appeals court on Thursday temporarily allowed President Trump to retain control of the California National Guard amid ongoing protests in Los Angeles, blocking a federal judge’s earlier order to return authority to Governor Gavin Newsom.

U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer ruled Trump’s deployment was unlawful, saying he acted “both exceeding the scope of his statutory authority and violating the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.” He ordered control of the Guard returned to Newsom but stayed the ruling until noon Friday. The Justice Department quickly appealed, and the 9th Circuit granted a stay, with a hearing set for Tuesday.

The legal battle stems from California’s lawsuit against Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and the Defense Department, seeking to limit military involvement in Los Angeles to protecting federal assets. Newsom’s office, when asked for comment, said he was “confident in the rule of law”.
