Hamas Frees All Hostages; Trump Heads To Israel
All 20 surviving Israeli hostages held in Gaza for more than two years were freed on Monday, marking the first major step in President Donald Trump’s US-brokered Gaza peace deal. The release began hours before Trump landed in Israel to celebrate what he called “the end of the war”. Trump will attend a summit in Egypt later today, where leaders from over 20 countries are expected to sign what could become the official end-of-war declaration. Follow live updates here.
The hostages were handed to the Red Cross in two groups before being reunited with families at Israeli bases and hospitals. Who are the hostages believed to be alive? In exchange, Israel began releasing nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners — including hundreds serving life sentences — as part of the wider ceasefire terms.
The deal, mediated by the US, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, also requires Hamas to return the bodies of 28 hostages who died in captivity and to cooperate with a multinational task force searching for the missing. What we know about the deal. Trump’s peace plan halted Israel’s military operations in Gaza and opened crossings for humanitarian aid after two years of devastating conflict that killed more than 67,000 Palestinians and over 1,200 Israelis. Still, questions loom over whether Hamas will disarm and what Gaza’s governance will look like.

Pakistan-Afghanistan Clashes Prompt Border Closures
Dozens were killed in the most intense border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan since the Taliban took power in 2021. Pakistan reported 23 soldiers dead, whereas the Taliban claimed it killed 58 Pakistani soldiers. On the other hand, the Taliban said that nine of its fighters were killed. Each side accused the other of heavier losses but offered no proof.
The fighting followed Pakistani airstrikes in Kabul and eastern Afghanistan, which Islamabad has not officially confirmed. Afghan forces retaliated by targeting Pakistani border posts, with both countries claiming to have destroyed several of the other’s positions. Crossings at Torkham, Chaman, and other key border points were sealed as the conflict escalated. How it threatens a wider conflict.
Tensions have risen sharply in recent months, with Pakistan demanding the Taliban crack down on militants launching attacks from Afghan soil — an accusation Kabul denies. Why are the two bordering countries fighting? The clashes coincided with Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi’s rare visit to India, heightening Islamabad’s unease. Regional powers including Saudi Arabia and Qatar urged restraint and dialogue. However, both sides continue to blame the other for escalating the violence, raising fears of a prolonged confrontation along the volatile Durand Line that could further destabilize the region. More colleges are rethinking mental health care by embedding counselors directly in dorms and academic buildings — making therapy easier to access, less stigmatized, and available late into the night. At schools like Virginia Tech and Santa Clara University, students say this setup feels warmer, safer, and more personal than traditional counseling centers. But as the model spreads nationwide, some experts warn it could blur professional boundaries or overextend mental health workers already stretched thin.
