No Deal On Iran As Pakistan Talks Fail
President Donald Trump on Sunday announced a US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz after peace talks in Islamabad collapsed overnight, threatening to destroy “the little that is left of Iran”. “THIS IS WORLD EXTORTION,” he wrote. Within hours of Trump’s blockade announcement, oil markets reacted sharply, with Brent crude rising to $102.29 and WTI to $104.56. The Pakistan-brokered talks, the highest-level US-Iran engagement since 1979, had aimed to reopen the strait, a route for roughly a fifth of global oil. How would a naval blockade work?
Leading the US delegation, Vice President JD Vance said after more than 20 hours of negotiations, “we just could not get to a situation where the Iranians were willing to accept our terms,” adding the US had come “in good faith” and remained open to a deal. On Saturday evening, as Vance negotiating in Islamabad, Trump was in Miami attending a UFC event alongside Marco Rubio and Joe Rogan.
In the meanwhile, US intelligence assessments indicate China is preparing to send new air defense systems to Iran, potentially routing shipments through third countries.

Hungary’s Orban Defeated After 16 Years In Power
Hungarian voters have ousted Prime Minister Viktor Orbán after 16 years in power, with Péter Magyar’s Tisza Party securing a decisive parliamentary victory. With over 98% of votes counted, Tisza was on course to win 138 of 199 seats, comfortably crossing the two-thirds threshold needed for constitutional changes. “We did it… Together we overthrew the Hungarian regime,” Magyar told supporters in Budapest, calling the result historic after a record 79.5% turnout. Who is Peter Magyar?
Orbán acknowledged defeat, calling the result “clear and painful,” after four consecutive election wins since 2010. Magyar, a former Orbán ally, campaigned on tackling corruption and restoring judicial independence. The result signals a shift in Hungary’s global stance, with Orbán having maintained ties with Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, while Magyar has pledged closer alignment with the European Union and Ukraine.

‘Annoyance Economy’ Ain’t Just Annoying
Rising prices and everyday consumer frustrations are combining to shape what economists describe as a growing “annoyance economy”, adding pressure to household finances. A recent estimate by economist Neale Mahoney puts the cost of time-consuming tasks — like cancelling subscriptions, dealing with hidden fees, or resolving billing issues — at $165 billion annually for American families. Some of these systems are described as “intentionally designed” to be complex, with companies seeing revenue gains of up to 200% when cancellations are harder. So, do you need a Spring cleaning for your finances?
At the same time, inflation has remained persistent, with consumer prices up 26% since 2021 and gasoline prices jumping 21.2% in March alone. The broader impact has hit sentiment, with consumer confidence falling to multi-decade lows even as unemployment remains relatively stable. Slowing wage growth, weaker hiring, and rising costs across sectors are reinforcing financial strain, as administrative burdens and higher prices increasingly intersect in daily life.

Millennials say they’ve had it tougher. Boomers say they've seen worse times. Data shows both faced real challenges — recessions, inflation, housing struggles — just at different times. Millennials earn similarly (or more) at comparable ages and have higher net worths now, but student debt and late entry into housing hit hard. Boomers benefited from earlier homeownership and decades of asset growth. Turns out, it’s less a clear winner and more a tale of timing, trade-offs, and shifting costs.
