Trump Signals Iran Talks On, Tehran Begs To Differ
President Donald Trump said the US would pause planned strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure for five days, citing “productive” and “constructive” talks and signaling a possible diplomatic breakthrough. He claimed envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff had engaged with Iranian counterparts and that both sides were open to a deal, particularly on preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. However, Iranian officials strongly denied that any direct talks were taking place, instead claiming the US pulled back due to mounting military pressure, market instability, and concerns from allies. Tehran said it would continue defending itself until “we achieve the necessary deterrence”. Which Iranian leaders are still alive driving the negotiations?
Amid the confusion, intermediaries like Pakistan are reportedly stepping in, with potential in-person talks being explored. Markets reacted sharply, with oil prices falling and stocks rising on hopes of de-escalation, though uncertainty remains high. Three disruptions beyond oil that would be hitting your wallets soon.

Mail-In-Ballot — In Jeopardy?
The US Supreme Court is considering whether states can count mail-in ballots that arrive after Election Day but are postmarked on time, focusing on a Mississippi law allowing a five-day grace period. Republicans, backed by the Trump administration and the Republican National Committee, argue federal law requires ballots to be received by Election Day.
Several conservative justices signaled concern about late ballots, while also questioning whether restricting them could affect early voting. Liberal justices defended states’ authority over election rules. A ruling could impact similar laws in dozens of states. A decision is expected by June or early July, ahead of the November elections.

Despite Bans, Restrictions, Abortion Numbers Hold Steady Across US
Since the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overturned federal abortion rights in 2022, several states have enacted restrictions. However, abortions in the US have remained stable, with about 1.126 million procedures reported in 2025, similar to 2024, according to the Guttmacher Institute.
A key factor is expanded access to telemedicine after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allowed abortion pills like mifepristone to be prescribed without in-person visits. In 2025, about 91,000 patients in states with bans used telehealth services. Legal challenges are ongoing, including a case in Louisiana seeking to restrict distribution of abortion medication.

A new analysis by ProPublica shows immigration arrests of parents with US-born children have surged under President Donald Trump’s second term, with at least 11,000 such parents detained in seven months. Deportations have also increased, especially among mothers, many without serious criminal records. In many cases, children — who are US citizens — are left behind, placed with relatives, or sent abroad. Federal policy still allows parents to arrange care, but critics say enforcement priorities have shifted, making family separations more common. The administration maintains it is enforcing existing law and does not “separate families”.
