Hamas Accepts (Most) of Trump’s Israel Deal; to Release Hostages
President Donald Trump on Friday urged Israel to halt its bombing campaign in Gaza, saying Hamas was “ready for a lasting PEACE” — marking his strongest intervention yet in efforts to end the nearly two-year war. Hamas might be infighting over the terms of Trump’s Israel deal.
Hamas responded to Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan with a conditional “yes,” agreeing to release all 48 Israeli hostages, both living and deceased, in exchange for an end to the war and a full Israeli withdrawal. “The priority is to stop the war and massacres,” Hamas leader Musa Abu Marzouk told Al Jazeera, adding that Hamas accepted nine points of Trump’s proposal and was ready for talks on the rest. What’s in the White House’s latest peace plan?
The plan, unveiled Monday at the White House alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, offers a pathway toward Palestinian self-determination, a prisoner exchange, and international oversight through a “Board of Peace” chaired by Trump. Israel’s government said it was “preparing to immediately implement the first phase” of the plan while coordinating with Washington.
