Your Lifespan Might Be More Genetic Than You Think
A new study in Science journal finds that genetics may account for up to 55% of human lifespan, higher than previous estimates of 6% to 33%. Researchers analyzed twin data, separating deaths from external causes — like accidents or infections — from internal biological factors such as age-related disease, to better assess genetic influence.
Lead author Ben Shenhar of the Weizmann Institute said the results align with other heritable traits, like height and muscle build. Editorialist Morten Scheibye-Knudsen noted genes set limits on lifespan across species. Eric Verdin of the Buck Institute said protective genes may affect disease susceptibility, though lifestyle still contributes significantly.

US, India Sign Trade Deal; Tariffs Lower
President Donald Trump announced that the US and India have reached a trade deal, lowering reciprocal tariffs. Trump said Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to buy more American products and to stop buying Russian oil, possibly sourcing from the US and Venezuela.
Trump wrote that the US tariff on Indian goods will drop from 25% to 18%, while India will reduce tariffs and non-tariff barriers to zero. Modi confirmed the US tariff reduction on X, thanking Trump and highlighting cooperation between the two countries. The text of the deal has not yet been released.

Swiping Right On (Platonic) Co-Parenting
Interest in platonic co-parenting is growing, with apps like Modamily, LetsBeParents, and CoParents reporting rising user numbers. One such mother uses Modamily to find a co-parent, prioritizing shared values over romance.
Mental health professionals and lawyers recommend counseling and formal agreements for co-parenting arrangements. Research from the University of Cambridge found children in elective co-parenting families fare psychologically similar to other family types, though some parents report social stigma.

A 33-year-old man survived 48 hours without natural lungs, kept alive by an artificial lung system, before receiving a double lung transplant. The patient’s life was threatened by fluid-filled lungs caused by a viral and bacterial infection. Doctors at Northwestern Memorial Hospital removed his damaged lungs and used a device that oxygenated blood and circulated it through his body. Nearly three years later, he remains healthy. Researchers say the system could become a “nuclear option” for patients with extreme acute respiratory distress syndrome, offering life-saving support when traditional care isn’t enough.
