Israel Allows Foreign Aid In Gaza As Starvation, Killings Mount

Israel’s military announced a “tactical pause” in parts of Gaza on Sunday to allow humanitarian aid deliveries amid escalating global concern over starvation in the enclave. The Israel Defense Forces said operations would pause daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Al-Mawasi, Deir al-Balah, and Gaza City, with aid convoys allowed between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. The move follows mounting pressure from aid agencies and allies, who blame Israel for blocking convoys and causing civilian deaths at aid sites. Trump’s chilling orders to Israel on Gaza.
Despite the pause, 38 Palestinians were reportedly killed by Israeli forces on Sunday, and nine others were shot near a convoy in central Gaza. More than 130 people — most of them children — have died from malnutrition since the war began. Aid drops by Jordan, the UAE, and Israel resumed over the weekend, though agencies call them “inefficient” and dangerous. What has the USAID analysis found? The UN’s Tom Fletcher urged a full ceasefire to “stop this horror”. Is this a grotesque distraction?
Israel also resumed limited power to a Gaza desalination plant and supported the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation to distribute aid — a system linked to repeated civilian casualties. However, Gazans still look for a permanent resolution, saying aid deliveries wouldn’t end the crisis.

US-EU Announce 15% Tariff Deal
The United States and European Union have reached a high-stakes trade agreement, narrowly avoiding a major economic clash. The deal imposes a 15% tariff on most EU goods — half the previously threatened rate — following a last-minute meeting between President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland. “I think this is the biggest deal ever made,” Trump said, touting $600 billion in EU investment in the U.S. and massive increases in energy and military purchases. Von der Leyen called Trump a “tough negotiator”, adding, “It will bring stability. It will bring predictability.” How did the EU land the deal?
Modeled on the recent U.S.-Japan trade pact, the agreement exempts key sectors such as semiconductors, aircraft parts, chemicals, and some agricultural goods. Tariffs on spirits, steel, and aluminum remain at 50%. The White House says Trump retains authority to raise rates if commitments aren’t met. German officials welcomed the breakthrough, which shields their automakers from a potential 27.5% tariff. While the EU had pushed for a zero-for-zero outcome, critics argue the deal favors the U.S., even as financial markets rallied in response. Trump and EU’s Leyen conflict on deal’s details.
On Monday, Trump is meeting British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland. Starmer and Trump were expected to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. British officials contrasted the EU deal with the 10% tariff agreement Starmer negotiated in May. Trump announced Sunday that the EU would also buy $750 billion in U.S. energy alongside its investment pledges — solidifying the deal as one of the largest in transatlantic trade history. Why was this deal extremely important for Trump?
Thailand-Cambodia Reach Ceasefire In Deadly Clashes
Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an “immediate and unconditional” ceasefire after five days of deadly fighting along their disputed border. The violence, which killed at least 36 people and displaced over 150,000, prompted emergency talks in Kuala Lumpur mediated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. With the support of the U.S. and China, both sides reached a “common understanding”, according to Anwar. Regional commanders will meet on July 29 to finalize military terms, followed by foreign and defense ministers working on a monitoring framework. Tensions escalated after a landmine explosion killed Thai soldiers last week, triggering retaliatory airstrikes.
Both Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai thanked Anwar and praised international partners, including President Trump. “This is an important step toward reducing tensions and restoring peace,” Hun Manet said. What’s behind the conflict?
Trump had warned of freezing trade agreements for both countries unless both sides stood down. Phumtham said the ceasefire would be “carried out in good faith,” while Cambodia proposed a General Boundary Committee meeting on August 4 to tackle the deeper territorial dispute.

The Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is reportedly using AI to build a “delete list” that could slash 50% of all federal regulations by January. The DOGE AI tool is scanning 200,000 rules to find ones it deems unnecessary — some already used by HUD and other agencies, The Guardian reported. Critics are alarmed by the pace, the lack of transparency, and the fact that a 19-year-old ex-influencer nicknamed “Big Balls” was among those leading the effort. Supporters say it’s about cutting red tape and making government more efficient.
