Nancy Pelosi Set To Retire
Nancy Pelosi, the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House and one of the most powerful figures in modern US politics, announced she will retire when her term ends in 2027. The 85-year-old California Democrat, who has represented San Francisco since 1987, leaves behind a nearly four-decade career defined by groundbreaking leadership, sharp political acumen, and historic legislative wins. Who will replace her?
In a video to her constituents, Pelosi said she will not seek reelection, expressing gratitude for the “great honor” of representing her city. “San Francisco, know your power,” she urged, calling on her hometown to remain engaged in democracy. How she rose from a stay-at-home mom.
A master strategist and formidable negotiator, Pelosi helped pass the Affordable Care Act, led two impeachments of Donald Trump, and shepherded landmark climate and infrastructure bills under President Biden. Revered by Democrats and reviled by Republicans, she shattered the “marble ceiling”, inspiring generations of women to lead. How the announcement reignited Democrats’ generational war.

Supreme Court Allows Trump To Reinstate Transgender Passport Policy
The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed the Trump administration to enforce a policy restricting passport gender designations to “male” and “female” based on sex assigned at birth. The move effectively halted the use of the “X” gender marker introduced under President Biden.
In a brief unsigned order, the conservative-majority court sided with the administration’s emergency request, signaling support for Trump’s broader rollback of transgender rights. The ruling, while temporary, enables the State Department to immediately implement the policy as litigation continues. The order marks the 22nd time the Supreme Court has granted an emergency request from Trump’s administration and underscores the court’s growing willingness to intervene early in politically charged cases. Everything you need to know.
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, joined by Justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, issued a sharp dissent, calling the decision a “pointless but painful perversion” that inflicts “real-world harm” on transgender Americans. The American Civil Liberties Union, representing several transgender plaintiffs, warned that the new rule endangers people whose passports no longer match their gender identity. “It’s a heartbreaking setback for the freedom to be oneself,” said ACLU attorney Jon Davidson.

Tesla Approves $1 Trillion Pay Package For Elon Musk
Tesla shareholders have approved a massive new pay package for Elon Musk — potentially worth up to $1 trillion — that could make him the world’s first trillionaire. Over 75% of investors backed the deal, which ties Musk’s compensation to Tesla’s ambitious growth goals, including selling one million humanoid robots and reaching an $8.5 trillion market cap by 2035. Musk, already the world’s richest person, celebrated the decision by thanking shareholders and joking about his “robot army,” saying his motivation was influence, not money.
Supporters, including major investors like Cathie Wood, argued that Musk’s vision and leadership are Tesla’s greatest assets, especially as it moves deeper into robotics and AI. Critics, however, called the plan excessive and risky, warning it could further concentrate wealth and power. Norway’s sovereign wealth fund voted against it, citing concerns about dilution and “key person risk”. Would he work harder for $1 trillion than $1 billion?
The package follows a Delaware court’s rejection of Musk’s previous $56 billion deal, marking another polarizing moment for Tesla — and for the broader debate over executive pay and the billionaire class shaping America’s future.

A New York Times investigation has revealed that fetal heart rate monitors — strapped onto nearly every woman giving birth in US hospitals — often do more harm than good. The devices, meant to detect fetal distress, rarely improve outcomes and have instead fueled soaring C-section rates. Yet hospitals and software companies continue to expand their use, citing safety, staffing, and legal reasons. Experts are calling it “the worst test in medicine,” but the system keeps running — literally — on false alarms.
