Colorado Fire Attack Leaves Victims Burning

Eight people were injured Sunday in Boulder, Colorado, after a 45-year-old man shouted "Free Palestine" and hurled a makeshift flamethrower into a crowd attending a demonstration for Israeli hostages still held in Gaza, according to authorities. Boulder police said the victims — four women and four men ranging from 52 to 88 years old — were taken to hospitals. Earlier, officials reported six injuries and noted at least one person was in critical condition. Here’s all you need to know.
The attack occurred at Boulder’s popular Pearl Street pedestrian mall, where members of the volunteer group Run For Their Lives had gathered to spotlight Israeli hostages still held in Gaza. The demonstration took place amid ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, which has intensified global tensions and fueled a rise in antisemitic violence in the U.S. It came just over a week after two Israeli embassy staffers were fatally shot outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington. As police led the Chicago suspect away, he shouted, “I did it for Palestine, I did it for Gaza.”
The suspect was booked into Boulder County Jail on multiple charges. Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser called the attack “a hate crime given the group that was targeted,” adding, “We all have the right to peaceably assemble and the freedom to speak our views. But these violent acts — which are becoming more frequent, brazen and closer to home — must stop, and those who commit these horrific acts must be fully held to account.” Witness Jesse Horwitz said he called police and then tried to help the injured. “Their skin was literally melting off their legs,” he said of one severely burned victim.
Exercise is THE Solution to Cancer Survival
A landmark randomized controlled trial has added strong evidence to claims that exercise can boost cancer survival rates. The international study tracked nearly 900 patients across 55 cancer centers in six countries. It found that those enrolled in a structured exercise program had a 37% lower risk of death and a 28% lower risk of cancer recurrence or new cancers compared to a control group.
“We now have definitive evidence that exercise is not just an intervention for quality of life and fitness. This is an intervention that improves survival and should be standard of care,” said Dr. Christopher Booth, senior author and professor of oncology at Queen’s University in Canada.
Experts say the benefits of exercise now rival some drugs, urging cancer centers and insurers to make exercise coaching a standard of care for colon cancer survivors. Until then, patients are encouraged to stay active post-treatment to help prevent recurrence. The international study, conducted in Canada, Australia, the U.K., Israel, and the U.S., compared outcomes between patients in a structured exercise program and those who received only an educational booklet. The findings were unveiled on Sunday at ASCO’s annual meeting in Chicago and published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The research was funded by academic groups in Canada, Australia, and the U.K.

Half of Top 100 Mental Health TikToks Filled With Misinformation
Over half of TikTok’s top trending mental health videos contain misinformation, according to a Guardian investigation. As more people turn to social media for mental health support, many influencers are spreading misleading advice — from misused therapy jargon to “quick fix” cures and false claims.
The Guardian analyzed the top 100 TikTok videos under the #mentalhealthtips hashtag, sharing them with psychologists, psychiatrists, and academic experts. Experts found that 52 of the videos contained misinformation related to trauma, neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, and severe mental illness — while many others were vague or unhelpful.
Viewers are met with questionable suggestions like “eating an orange in the shower to reduce anxiety,” promoting supplements with limited scientific backing such as saffron or holy basil, and videos claiming trauma can be healed “within an hour.” Some content also wrongly frames everyday emotions as signs of borderline personality disorder or abuse.
