Austria School Shooting Leaves 10 Dead

Ten people are dead and at least a dozen injured after a school shooting on Tuesday at BORG Dreierschützengasse in Graz, Austria. The city’s mayor confirmed the deaths, stating that the alleged shooter had also died. Austrian state police said the victims included “three males and seven females”. Nine of the dead were students aged 15 to 17, and one was a teacher. All 12 injured were also students, with “some severely” hurt, officials said at a press conference. Who are the victims?
On Wednesday, Austrian authorities searched for answers as the alleged gunman, a 21-year-old, took his own life after one of the deadliest attacks in the country’s recent history. The suspect, an Austrian citizen and former student who never graduated, was unemployed at the time of the attack. Police said he acted alone, using a shotgun and a pistol. What we know so far?
As the country reels from the loss, Austria held a minute of silence on Wednesday at 10:00 am to honor the victims, following a candlelight vigil that drew thousands the night before. Three days of national mourning have been declared, and flags are flying at half-mast on all public buildings.
After LA, Anti-ICE Protests Spread Nationwide
Protests erupted nationwide amid Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests in Los Angeles, which prompted President Donald Trump to deploy thousands of National Guard troops and Marines. Demonstrators rallied in cities across the United States, including Dallas, Chicago, Austin, Las Vegas, Seattle, Atlanta, New York, and in other California cities in solidarity. See full list of protests.
Responding to demonstrations across Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott announced late Tuesday that he would deploy National Guard troops statewide, becoming the first Governor to do so. How is sending troops costing $134 million? Back in LA, Mayor Karen Bass declared a local emergency and imposed an 8 pm to 6 am curfew downtown to “stop the vandalism”. She said looting has impacted several businesses and urged people to avoid the area. The move comes as several school and college graduations are marred by students fearing deportations. Maps and full timeline of the escalation.
So far, over 350 protesters have been arrested in at least five cities since Friday in mostly peaceful demonstrations against federal immigration raids. While some clashes left protesters and officers injured, unrest was limited to small city areas. While almost half of adult Americans disapprove Trump’s handling of protests, the President has said that the use of military to handle protests could be “the first, perhaps, of many”. Who are the LA protestors?
Calls For RFK Jr’s Resignation Grow
Current and former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) employees are urging Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to resign, warning that staffing cuts and funding reductions are undermining the agency’s ability to respond to health crises.
The protests, scheduled outside an all-hands meeting at the CDC, were sparked by months of staff cuts and a leadership vacuum. They featured signs like “Save CDC,” “RFK’s War on Kids,” and “Who the f--- is in charge?” Protesters also demanded the appointment of a new CDC director.
Amid the protests, the CDC meeting, which was held to address staff concerns, was abruptly canceled on Monday by acting CDC chief of staff Matthew Buzzelli. This came as Kennedy recently removed all 17 members of the independent vaccine advisory panel and previously oversaw a sweeping federal health restructure, which included laying off 2,400 CDC employees and dismantling key programs. How does party politics come into play?
