Internet Can’t Get Enough of Trump-Mamdani Meet

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani met President Donald Trump at the Oval Office on Thursday for an unannounced meeting focused on federal housing support. Mamdani presented Trump with a mock New York Daily News front page reading “Trump to City: Let’s Build,” modeled after the 1975 “Ford to City: Drop Dead” cover.

Mamdani said they discussed a proposal for 12,000 new housing units, which his office said Trump was “enthusiastic” about. Mamdani also asked Trump to intervene in the ICE detention of Columbia student Ellie Aghayeva; he later said Trump called to confirm her imminent release.

The Deal That Never Was

Netflix said Thursday it will not raise its offer to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, clearing the way for Paramount Skydance to become the leading bidder. WBD’s board called Paramount’s revised $31-per-share offer superior. Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters said the deal was no longer financially attractive at the required price. Netflix shareholders seemed pretty happy.

WBD CEO David Zaslav said the Paramount merger would create shareholder value. Paramount has agreed to cover WBD’s termination fee if the merger proceeds, following WBD’s limited waiver allowing renewed talks.

Migration

Americans Are Leaving (In Record Numbers)

The US recorded negative net migration in 2025, a shift not seen since the Great Depression, with more people leaving than arriving. The Trump administration cited increased deportations and visa restrictions as drivers, while data from over 50 countries shows record numbers of Americans relocating for affordability, safety and quality-of-life benefits.

Relocation firms report surging demand, with thousands seeking visas or citizenship in Europe, Mexico and Asia. The Brookings Institution estimated a net loss of about 150,000 people in 2025, alongside rising applications to renounce US citizenship and growing American populations abroad.

Instagram will begin alerting parents when teens repeatedly search for suicide or self-harm terms, but only if families opt into parental supervision. The change lands as Meta faces two major trials alleging it harms and addicts minors, accusations CEO Mark Zuckerberg disputes. Critics argue the new alerts shift responsibility to parents rather than addressing platform design flaws. Meta says similar AI-related alerts are coming soon.
