UN Security Council Adopts US-Backed Gaza Peace Plan
The UN Security Council on Monday approved President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, giving the administration a legally binding international mandate to move beyond the fragile cease-fire and begin rebuilding the devastated enclave. The US-drafted resolution, which embeds Trump’s 20-point proposal, authorizes the creation of a “Board of Peace” as a transitional authority and an International Stabilization Force tasked with entering, demilitarizing and governing Gaza. It passed 13-0, with Russia and China abstaining after significant support from Arab and Muslim nations.
US Ambassador Michael Waltz called the measure a lifeline for Gaza and urged rapid implementation. Trump celebrated the vote, saying he would chair the Board of Peace and promising announcements on its membership soon.
Still, the resolution leaves major questions unresolved, including the composition of the board, the authority over stabilization forces, and the timeline for transferring governance to a reformed Palestinian Authority. Many Council members voiced concern that the language on Palestinian statehood lacked clarity, while Israel reiterated its opposition to such a state. What’s inside the America-run base that is helping plan Gaza’s future?

Judge Hits DOJ With “Govt Misconduct” In Charges Against Comey
A federal magistrate judge sharply criticized the Justice Department’s handling of the criminal case against former FBI Director James Comey, finding evidence of “government misconduct” and ordering prosecutors to give Comey’s defense team full access to grand jury materials. The ruling follows earlier concerns that the department had taken an “indict first, investigate later” approach in a case filed just days after President Donald Trump publicly urged prosecution of Comey and other perceived political opponents.
Comey, charged with lying to Congress in 2020, has pleaded not guilty and argues the case is a vindictive prosecution driven by political pressure. Magistrate Judge William Fitzpatrick said the record showed a “disturbing pattern of profound investigative missteps”, including fundamental misstatements of law to the grand jury, the use of potentially privileged communications, and irregularities in the grand jury transcript. He also questioned whether the indictment presented in court was the same one reviewed by the grand jury.
The ruling intensifies scrutiny of Lindsey Halligan, Trump’s recently appointed interim US attorney, who led the indictment despite no prior prosecutorial experience. Prosecutors moved quickly to freeze the order, and a district judge has paused it pending objections, as broader challenges to the indictment and Halligan’s appointment proceed.

America Has A Troublesome Prenatal Care Gap
Doctors across the country are seeing a troubling rise in women beginning prenatal care late in pregnancy, sometimes just weeks or days before giving birth. Georgia OB-GYN Dr. L. Joy Baker says she routinely meets first-time patients in their second or third trimester, and has even conducted initial visits at 39 weeks. A new March of Dimes report confirms the trend: only 75% of mothers last year began care in the first trimester, part of a four-year decline.
Experts warn that early prenatal care is crucial for identifying chronic conditions, managing risks like preeclampsia or gestational diabetes, and preventing complications. But many women face systemic barriers, including maternity care deserts, more than a third of US counties lack OB-GYNs or birthing facilities. This comes along with Medicaid delays, housing instability, and fear of seeking care, especially in immigrant communities. Medicaid under-reimbursement and provider shortages further limit access.
Delayed care carries consequences. Baker recalls a patient whose first visit at 37 weeks revealed dangerously high blood sugar, forcing immediate induction. Nationally, the US continues to struggle with high preterm birth rates, particularly among Medicaid patients. Experts say improving maternal health will require earlier access to care, better insurance coverage, stronger public health systems, and targeted support for high-risk communities.

The job market is stuck in a “Great Freeze”, where unemployment looks low on paper but hiring has slowed sharply, echoing the sluggish recovery after the Great Recession. New grads, career switchers, and laid-off workers face long searches, fewer entry-level openings, and companies prioritizing productivity tech over expanding payrolls. Analysts say today’s “jobless boom” masks a tough reality: workers may need patience, broader job targets, or even entrepreneurship to move forward.
