Newark’s Anti-ICE Protests Persist Despite Curfew, Arrests

A mandatory curfew is now in effect outside the Delaney Hall immigration detention center after New Jersey State Police fired tear gas to disperse rioting crowds Saturday night. Tensions boiled over for a second straight night when anti-ICE counter-protesters overwhelmed police, tore down barricades, and breached a designated peaceful protest zone. Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka immediately enacted a nightly 9 pm to 6 am curfew for a half-mile radius around the facility, citing weapons arrests. All you need to know. "Immediate action is required to protect public safety," Baraka stated. However, the protests persist.

The unrest follows a week of dueling rallies over an alleged hunger strike by 300 detainees protesting "terrible conditions", an accusation DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin denies. This is Mullin’s first test as DHS head. Governor Mikie Sherrill blamed out-of-state extremists for escalating the chaos.

The LA Mayor Market Ends June 2. The Odds Are Moving Now.

Karen Bass is at 68%. Spencer Pratt at 27%. Over $21 million is already trading on the Los Angeles Mayor race on Kalshi — and the prices are shifting every day as local news breaks. The window to get in before the consensus hardens is closing. The best prediction market trades happen before everyone agrees on the outcome. That moment is right now, before June 2. Ozempic's Next Fix? Fighting Cancer

Blockbuster weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy might have a powerful new side effect: fighting cancer. New real-world data from the Cleveland Clinic, presented at the 2026 ASCO Annual Meeting, reveals that GLP-1 drugs are linked to a "meaningful reduction" in cancer progression across breast, lung, colorectal, and liver cancers.

Researchers tracked over 12,000 patients and found that those taking GLP-1s saw their risk of tumor progression to stage IV disease cut roughly in half compared to patients on other diabetes medications. Even better, high expression of GLP-1 receptors in tumors was linked to a 33% lower risk of death. While clinical trials are still needed, experts say the drugs' anti-inflammatory properties could be a massive game-changer for oncology.

Is Your Friend Group Making You Broke? Science Says Yes

Ever feel like your social life is a non-stop parade of pricey brunches, group vacations, and expensive dinners you didn't really want? You’re not alone, and it’s not just in your head. Yale scientists confirm that financial habits are a "social contagion". We are hardwired to mirror the spending choices of the people around us, creating a warped reality where overspending feels completely normal.

But there is a silver lining. Because financial behavior is so contagious, it only takes one brave friend to completely flip the script. By openly setting budget boundaries, normalizing secondhand shopping, or swapping an expensive night out for a casual night in, a single influencer can quietly rescue their entire inner circle from a lifetime of debt.

WEIGH IN

People have never had more happiness advice at their fingertips, yet many report feeling lonelier, more stressed, and less fulfilled. An expert tells The New York Times that the problem may be that we’ve confused happiness with constant positivity, productivity, and self-optimization. Research suggests lasting happiness is less about feeling good all the time and more about purpose, relationships, community, and accepting that negative emotions are part of life. The challenge is that modern technology often pulls us away from the very things that make us feel connected and fulfilled.
